Community Medicine is the branch of science which deals with health of the community. Health needs of the population are measured and appropriate strategies are developed to improve the health status of the community through health promotion, disease prevention and health protection. Community medicine is taught in the 4th year of the MBBS program. The main goal of our department is to inculcate the qualities of a “seven start doctors” in our undergraduate students.
Core Components of the course are Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Care System, Health Education, Health Planning, Maternal & Child Health, Family Planning, Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases’ Prevention & Control Strategies. Field visits are mandatory for the students, which will help them to be more aware of grass root problems of their community. Research is also one of the core components of our curriculum. During their Research Projects students learn questionnaire designing, data collection, data analysis and academic writing skills which help them to widen their knowledge base.
