Department of Ophthalmology

The department of Ophthalmology operates under the division of Surgery and is affiliated with AUMDCIt is recognized for post graduate training in Ophthalmology by College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.  

The department is well equipped with latest modern equipment and run by trained faculty members and allied staffIt provides its services in outdoor patient facilities, wards, operation theatres and emergency room.   

This department is looking after the needs of Ophthalmological patients for common refractive and specialized ocular problems and training of Optometry and Orthoptic students as well. 

The department is being supervised by experienced faculty members, clinicians and dedicated trained staffIt has all the required modern diagnostic and operative facilities at par with national and international standards available for teaching and training of medical students, post graduate residents and paramedical staff for quality ophthalmic care

An exclusive state of the art modular operation theatre is available for eye surgery with teaching facility.  

Education and training:

The department is recognized by College of Physicians and Surgeon, Pakistan for trainings of MCPS and FCPS programsCurrently there are two post graduate residents undertaking their FCPS training under the supervision of Professor DrTariq Shakoor.  

This Ophthalmology department is also affiliated with Green International University (GIU) for training of students in Optometry, Orthoptics and other Allied Visual Health Sciences and facilitates lectures and their clinical rotations under the supervision of our learned faculty members.

Head of the department:

The Department of Ophthalmology at Ali Fatima Hospital (AFH) affiliated to AUMDC is headed by ProfDrTariq Shakoor, who is an experienced Ophthalmologist and qualified Health Professions Educationist from College of Physicians & Surgeons, PakistanHe is exceedingly skilled eye surgeon and humble personality with a vast teaching and clinical experience within the country and abroadHe has been the pioneer in the departmental organization since its beginning with sincerity and devotionHe is Medical Graduate from Allama Iqbal Medical College Lahore and is a Member and a Fellow of College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan (CPSP)He has been an active executive member of Ophthalmological Society Pakistan (OSP) contributing towards research and promotion of Ophthalmological health care.

He has served In Pakistan Army Medical Corps Hospitals and retired as Brigadier after 32 years of meritorious serviceHe had been teaching the undergraduate and postgraduate students as regular faculty member in prestigious institutions of Armed Forces, Rahbar Medical & Dental College (RMDC), CMH Lahore Medical College, Army Medical College (AMC), Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI) and Armed forces Institute of Ophthalmology (AFIO)

He, currently, is an examiner, paper setter and supervisor for various Ophthalmology, Allied Visual Health Sciences and Educational programs of UHS, NUMS and CPSP.
