Department of Physiology

The mission of the Physiology department is to educate, train and inspire young people in the science of healing by imparting systematic, factual, and current knowledge of normal body processes using modern techniques and information along with proven conventional approaches of teaching in the subject of Physiology.

The department of Physiology at Abu Umara Medical and Dental College is responsible for teaching the subject of Physiology to MBBS Classes and Allied Health Sciences classes. Faculty have designed strategies in the curriculum for the early introduction of MBBS students to Research Methodology encompassing applications of basic principles of Physiology. The development of a horizontally integrated planner and its implementation within basic sciences departments received a lot of effort and work input from faculty and can be considered as a milestone in undergraduate academic teaching of medical sciences.

The faculty of the Physiology department has published research papers in both national and international impact factor journals. The faculty is also actively involved in attending national conferences and CME training programs. 

Future plans of the department include the establishment of Post Graduate M. Phil. Physiology program and production of quality research involving cutting-edge molecular and genetic techniques.

Prof. Dr. Mohsin Ali Cheema, MBBS, M.Phil.

Dr. Mohsin Ali Cheema is a graduate of King Edward Medical College. He did his M.phil. in Physiology from the University of health sciences Lahore in 2014 and is currently doing his Ph.D. research work on Vitamin D. He has been involved in undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate medical teaching for the last 15 years. He has published multiple research articles on children with special needs and vitamin D. Recently his chapter on Non-Bone effects of Vitamin D in children, adolescents, and young adults was published in International Text Book on Vitamin-D. At AUMDC, Dr. Mohsin has designed strategies in the curriculum for the early introduction of MBBS students to Research Methodology encompassing applications of basic principles of Physiology.
