Department of Surgery

The department of General Surgery is one of the key departments of Ali Fatima Hospital and its affiliated Abu Umara Medical and Dental College Lahore. It has more than 130 beds capacity with 10 bedded HDU and well equipped 10 bedded Surgical ICU. It has most modern, state of the art, equipped operating room suit and CSSD.  The hospital has an emergency department which has the capability to deal all types of surgical emergencies round the clock.

The department has 3 OPD clinics where surgical patients are attended by the consultants six days a week. The faculty of surgery comprises of highly skilled, trained and qualified surgeons having strongest academic background. It is headed by Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Bhatti with his dedicated team of Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Senor Registrars, Post-graduate Resident and Medical Officers.

 The department has the facilities of performing all types of surgical procedures including Laparoscopic surgeries, abdominal, head and neck, breast, Hepatobiliary, colorectal, and Hernia repair, above all abdominoplasty for the pendulous abdominal obesity. In the management of these surgical patients, there is a great help and support from the departments like Anesthesiology, Radiology, Medicine/ Cardiology and Pathology.

The department also has the following associated departments:-

• Orthopedics
• Urology
• Physiotherapy

Besides managing surgical patients, the department is full-time recognized by college of Physicians and Surgeons for the post graduate training and presently having a PGR with more induction of Trainees in January, 2022. The department has the future planning of starting research and continuous professional development programs also.

Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Bhatti

Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Bhatti is working as Professor of Surgery and Head of Department of Surgery in Ali Fatima Hospital/ AUMDC Lahore. He is a graduate of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi and served as consultant in various Pakistan Army hospitals. He is Member as well as Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. After having retirement from Pakistan Army served in various teaching hospitals of private sector. He is examiner and paper assessor of University of Health Sciences and is a recognized supervisor for the Post graduate trainees of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. He has more than 09 research publications in both National and International medical journals.

 After having more than 32 years of experience, He is capable of performing various types of elective and emergency procedures. His area of interest is Breast, Thyroid, Laparoscopic surgery and repair of all types of hernias especially needle herniotomy in children. He has also performed quite a number of Abdominoplasty procedure for the pendulous abdomen.
